"Don't just DO something ---- Stand There !"

*That's not exactly the way you've heard that phrase said, now is it? No, this is how it goes. There's some kind of emergency happening and everyone is just standing around watching it, stunned, frozen like a deer in headlights when someone shouts, "Dont just STAND THERE, DO SOMETHING!" Then somebody will awake from this state of shock and call 911 or get a towel to wipe up the spilled milk. Right after something scary, shocking, upsetting, disturbing, or even joyous, happens, there is that split second where we just stand there and calculate our next move. Should we run away from it or toward it? Fight or flight. Yell or cry. Recue or revenge. We don't even realize this is happening, but the end result tells us the choice we made, whether retreated or responded. So, what's the point of this title?

*There are times in our DAILY life, we need to just STOP DOING STUFF. I am famous, or should I say 'infamous' for doing, doing, doing. I get it honest. I grew up with my dad being a guy that couldn't sit down very long, except maybe to watch the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon, with his eyes closed I might add, but he knew the exact moment I tried to turn the channel to something else. Anyway, I believe it to be genetic and also environmental. We are in America! Land of the free, home of the brave and the pursuers of happiness. We are pursuers. As an adult I learned to make a "DO LIST" and check each item off as I 'get-er-dun". Those 'checks' can be a little addicting. Ok, A LOT addicting. And what do I have at the end of the day? A false sense of control and a piece of paper with a lot of checkmarks and underneath it a fresh sheet of paper waiting to be filled with tomorrow's do-list. *

*I wrote it down and I checked it off - Make the bed, Do the dishes, Start a load of laundry, Vacuum the dog and feed the carpet. No, no, going to fast, it's the other way around. Vacuum carpet, Feed dog. BUT Did I put "FEED MY SPIRIT" on that list? Did I write down, "Time-out to talk to GOD", today? Did I STOP what I was DOING and LISTEN ? Listen to my breathe? The breathe that God put into my lungs the day I was born? Did I write," BE STILL and KNOW that I AM GOD ? (Psalm 46:10)

*First, let's look at "BE STILL". It means to "let go', 'release'. LET GO OF CONTROL and SUBMIT ourselves to GOD. Free yourself of sovereignty. Get off the control throne and allow the ONE that is supposed to be there, BE THERE. We weren't made for that job anyway, we don't fit the job discription. The ONE that IS qualified, GOD Almightly, loves us and seeks us out, desires us. Letting Go and Letting GOD is a wonderful place to be.

*Be still and "KNOW" - Know doesn't mean 'know about Him". Knowing HIM is having a personal relationship with HIM. How do I do that? The same way you did when you fell in love with some guy, or bend over and listen to your children speak. You give them attention. Listen to what GOD says, through HIS WORD the Bible, and be ON THE LOOKOUT for things that HE does in our daily life. SPEND TIME with those people who have a relationship with HIM (we call it 'fellowship', worshipping with Christian,(yes, I mean 'go to church', hanging out with them, eating with them , playing withthem, serving each other, praying for them, etc.)

*The last part of that verse in Psalm46:10 is, "I will be honored (exalted) by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world." Honored, exalted means to be lifted up, highly valued or glorified.

*This is a prediction made by the SOVEREIGN GOD about what is GOING to happen. Oh my! How cool is that, that HE lets us in on it. For we know that GOD IS:

Omniscient * all knowing.

Omnipresent * universal presence at the same time

Omnipotent * all powerful

Holy, Faithful, and Sovereign

Infinite * without measure, forever

WHAT A JOB DESCRIPTION THAT IS.

Romans 14:11-*As surely as I live,* says the Lord, *every knee will bow to me and every tongue will confess allegiance to God.**

FEAR

What is it that 'scares you to death"? What sends shivers up your spine, raises the hair on your arm, makes you want to run, lock your doors, jump on a chair, hide under the covers, sit on the closet floor? Do you freak out with the thought of seeing a mouse, public speaking, spiders, falling down, climbing up or just sitting still? Do you fear failure, or success, needles, water, flying, fire or dying? What about dentists, trains or crossing bridges, fear of church (yes, there is a phobia name for that) or standing on ledges. Is it the fear of dogs or frogs that steals your breathe?          FEAR -A powerful emotion that can have a powerful response. Whether the fear comes from reality or our imaginations, response to fear can literally cause us to get physically ill. It can make our spirits go down and our blood pressure go up. It can make us hide in our house for weeks or cause us to "run the...

FAITHlift - It's Amazing What A "Little Work" Can Do

I write a bulletin/newsletter especially for the single moms in the Together Program at Boles Children's Home and the ladies that work there as well.  I named this bulletin, "FAITHlift - It's amazing what a 'little work' can do.  This is one of the first front page articles I put on the bulletin/newsletter. You've probaby figured it out by now. It's a 'play on words' - FAITHlift sounds like FACE lift. And "She's had a 'little work' is said in reference to someone who has had a Facelift. Seems like some American women like to have a little work done. Have the eyebrows done, her nose, her chin, her neck, and the list just gets 'lower and lower', if you know what I mean. **We are bombarded with images of beautiful women on TV and on the cover of magazines. Teenagers and now these days, preteen girls are wishing upon a star that they look like that girl on the magazine cover. But we know that the computer has gotten the pic...
