FAITHlift - It's Amazing What A "Little Work" Can Do

I write a bulletin/newsletter especially for the single moms in the Together Program at Boles Children's Home and the ladies that work there as well.  I named this bulletin, "FAITHlift - It's amazing what a 'little work' can do.  This is one of the first front page articles I put on the bulletin/newsletter.

You've probaby figured it out by now. It's a 'play on words' - FAITHlift sounds like FACE lift. And "She's had a 'little work' is said in reference to someone who has had a Facelift. Seems like some American women like to have a little work done. Have the eyebrows done, her nose, her chin, her neck, and the list just gets 'lower and lower', if you know what I mean.

**We are bombarded with images of beautiful women on TV and on the cover of magazines. Teenagers and now these days, preteen girls are wishing upon a star that they look like that girl on the magazine cover. But we know that the computer has gotten the pictures of these 'beautiful, perfect looking' women long before it went to print. A little adjustment here, a little airbrush there; cut, paste....whatever. You know what I mean. But we STILL compare ourselves to the worlds view of what a beautiful women should look like.

**The reality is, even if we actually get a "a little work" done, how long would that last? If you live long enough, you are going to get OLD. There I go, I said it. We are getting older every day. And even though the body is getting older day by day (2 Corinthians 4:16). the spirit can be renewed 'every morning'. I like the sound of that. That is an investment with a payoff that will start NOW and last a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very long time; in other words, eternity.

The rest of the story *

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see. God gave his approval to people in days of old because of their faith.

Hebrews 11:1,2

"It impossible to please GOD without faith." Hebrews 11:6

Just like the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead" James 2:26

What is this word works? WORKS - also translated - deeds, doing, labour, business, that which one undertakes TO DO, enterprise, undertaking, anything accoumplished by hand,

art, industry, or mind. an act, thing done.

*Sounds like ACTIONS to me. I am NOT saying that we can earn salvation, it is a gift.

(Ephesians 2:8) The Bible makes that perfectly clear.

But it is also clear that to GROW FAITH YOU MUST GO.

Our muscles don't get strong by sitting on the couch and watching TV. They get strong by going 'outside your comfort zone' and sweating a little bit, moving a little faster than you have, walking a little farther than you did, lifting a little heavier weight than you did last week. Building spiritual muscles requires some action. Remember that Faith is a SHIELD in our christian armor. (Ephesians 6:101-8)

It has a definite purpose. It is a powerful tool against those flaming arrows

with which satan wants to pierce our hearts. Arrows that discourage us from doing what is right, tempting us to fall and fail, and keeping us from holding on to hope.

WE NEED THIS SHIELD.  So -  DIVE INTO GOD'S WORD.
                                                                 EXERCISE  YOUR FAITH MUSCLES.

                                                                                                           GET STRONG IN THE LORD

  1. Good job! I wish people would forget the outside and focus on the inside - that's what really counts.

Labor Day was different 'back then'.

When I was a kid, Labor Day was different. We didn't go to the lake, or grill out, or have a bunch of people over. No, we had to labor on Labor Day.  Dad got off from his job at Plymouth Plating Works in Plymouth, Michigan but he stayed home and worked. It was considered an 'extra day' to work on the house, to take care of the house we were fortunate and blessed to have.  They bought that house in 1959 for the enormous price of eighteen thousand dollars. Today, a  vehicle alone can cost you more than that and will depreciate as soon as you drive it off the car lot. But that was a lot of money then, and I can only guess that a large amount of dad's paycheck went to keeping a roof over our heads. So on Labor Day, we laboured. Plus, other days dad got off. He didn't HAVE to be Labor Day. We ALL had to help paint the outside of the house or clean something. My sister and I helped our parents and it didn't matter how old we were either. ...

I Want To Look like BARBIE !

There are over 40 different types of cosmetic surgeries that you can pick from. From head to toe, you can have some part of your body enlarged, reduced, smoothed or taken off completely. And for more than 40 years Barbie dolls have been set before our girls and girls have dreamed of one day looking like Barbie. I read of a 48 years old woman that aspired to look like a Barbie doll although she none of the features of Barbie. So she started getting all kinds of surguries to accomplish her goal. She had the money, so she did it.           I wanted to talk about a NECK LIFT. What condition is your neck in. Does it get a lot of activity, turning around and watching other people and what they are doing or not doing? Does your neck get a little stiff? There is a term in the Bible 'stiff-necked" that God uses several time in reference to his children, the children of Israel. What does stiff...
